  • 7-day (6hour/day) hands-on learning of Chinese painting and calligraphy from the Gallery Head.
  • 3 days in between to see beautiful natural sceneries and experience cultural heritage not known by many

All you need to bring are your paint brushes (can be purchased in local art stores).

Our study trip is on less-treaded path, with peace and hospitality, twin-share accommodation included, half of the meals are included, to give you freedom to browse the night market, morning market and restaurants. The region is dumpling, pancake and seafood heaven. Most on-ground transport is included, with occasional need to catch taxi or bus for your own leisure.

Our teacher will be Cheng, Shuai, the Head of Longkou Art Gallery. The paintings you see here are all his work. With Bachelor of Literature, major in Chinese Painting, from the Art Faculty of Ludong University, China, special academician of  Tonglu Buddhism Calligraphy and Painting Institute, China, Mr. Cheng holds many positions in local and regional artist and calligrapher and photographer and stamp carving associations. His paintings are all over every village and public spaces of the City.

The study covers a brief history of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, the rest is hands on with one-on-one mentoring on the main categories of Chinese painting and your choice of calligraphy style, and stamp carving if you wish. Teaching is tailored to students' learning interest.

During our three days non-study time, we have a wide range interesting sceneries and activities to choose from, based on our time and interest.

  • Visit Penglai Ancient Building Group, one of the 4 most famous pagodas in China, the only by the sea, aging over 900 years. Here you’ll see many calligraphy work carved into stones and walls, here you’ll see temples of Buddhism, Daoism, Sea Goddess (Mazu), and Dragon King, here’s you’ll also see the oldest navy base of China, and amazing ancient ship museum, the longest war ship unearthed in China, here you’ll also meet the eight immortals as this is the origin of China’s immortal land and fairy tales. (cost included)
  • Dress in ancient Chinese costumes (if you wish) and experience playing the only World-Heritage listed musical instrument, Guqin. (cost included)
  • Experience ceramic painting and take your work back home. If time allows, we can experience gourd painting as well. (self-funded activities depending on the piece you choose, very affordable)
  • Learn Taiji, visit Chinese medicine practices (self-fund treatment, very affordable, visit free)
  • Go hiking in the most beautiful mountain village of Ankuang (cost included)
  • Visit a Zen Buddhism Tea House (self funded depending on the tea choice)
  • Free time to explore markets, shops, and restaurants
  • Visit ancient village museum and street live arts and crafts display (cost included)
